Why is a humidor important?
Cigars must be stored at 70 - 73% relative humidity (regardless of temperature) or they will dry out. A quality humidor is essential to facilitate proper storage.
If a cigar is properly stored, how long will it last?
Indefinitely. People still have pre-Castro Cubans tucked safely in their humidors!
If a cigar dries out, is it possible to get the taste back?
If you let a cigar dry out it will become damaged, but it can be recovered by slowly re-humidifying it in a proper humidor. It will never be the same though, and some cigars will re-humidify better than others.
Are metal storage tubes OK to use?
You can store cigars short-term this way (up to one year), as long as the cigars were are properly humidified before the tube is sealed. CAUTION: If you open the tube to smell the tobacco, you will let air in and the cigar will slowly dry out.
How do cigars from different countries differ in taste?
